EB-5 Extension Through March 23, 2018
Another short-term EB-5 extension has been passed through March 23, 2018.
After the short-term EB-5 extension, Congress would need to reauthorize and/or reform the EB-5 Regional Center Program in either an appropriations bill, extending it until September, or they would need to pass an immigration measure.
Although Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell initiated the debate on immigration that is supposed to happen next week, a discussion on EB-5 is not expected to be included. The focus will be on DACA and the border security wall.
Reforming the EB-5 Program to tackle some of its major issues has been a priority of EB-5 stakeholders. Some of the reforms that have been spotlighted and advocated for include:
- Integrity measures
- Targeted employment area gerrymandering
- Visa cap
- Minimum investment amounts
To lock in the lower minimum investment amount, investors may be interested in applying for the EB-5 Program before the March 23 sunset date.
